I would like to add VC++ Redistributable 2013 to an existing working WiX project. The project consists of one main file with a
<Product>
element, which contains a <Feature>
and an <InstallExecuteSequence>
element and some others. I found out that you can use
<ExePackage>
from Burn
to install an .exe
file (in my case the redistributable). I formed a fragment, which looks like this (with help from here):VCRedist.exe file information. The process known as VC Redistributable or Program Redist belongs to software Visual Redistributable or Program Redist by Visual Redistributable or Program Redist. Description: VCRedist.exe is not essential for Windows and will often cause problems. The rec room or hobby room is a haven for activities that generally don´t find their place in the neat and homey layout of living rooms, like gaming consoles, ping pong tables, poker tables and huge lounge chairs, maybe a home bar. However, it needn’t necessarily be something that´s bad for you.
I would like to know if there is a way to include this into my existing WiX product or no? If there is no way, how can I combine the original installer and the
<ExePackage>

ExePackage
is valid only in a bundle (.exe), not a product (.msi). (The VC++ redistributable is itself a Burn bundle containing MSI packages and MSI packages can't install other MSI packages.)18.1k22 gold badges3434 silver badges4242 bronze badges
The best way to add your vc redist binaries to the installation is to use the merge modules supplied by Microsoft although they now recommend using a bootstrapper and installing the redistributable packages themselves instead of using merge modules.
See this microsoft topic for more information about Redistributing Visual C++ Files.

VcRedist is PowerShell module for downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. The module also supports creating applications in the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit or System Center Configuration Manager to install the Redistributables.
Visual C++ Redistributables
The Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables are a core component of any Windows desktop deployment. Because multiple versions are often deployed they need to be imported into your deployment solution or installed locally, which can be time consuming. The aim of this module is to reduce the time required to import the Redistributables or install them locally.
